Every year, I am inspired by the commitment to student success and growth shown by the staff in WCSD#1 and our parent and community involvement.
I started my career in Dover, Florida; teaching Kindergarten through sixth graders with specific learning disabilities. In 1993, I moved to Jackson, Wyoming and taught a fourth and fifth grade combination class and then third grade for multiple years. My husband and I moved to Worland in 2000, and I was a special education teacher at Worland High School until I became the Special Education Director in the 2011/2012 school year.
I feel strongly about the ERC’s mission statement: “To advance the education and quality of life of students with exceptionalities while enhancing individual strengths and fostering parent and school relationships.” We need all stakeholders to be involved in educating and promoting our youth. The ERC does hold free monthly classes for parents and community members on topics to help prepare children for school and content areas, accommodate disability areas, and general information on special education topics. I value your input and ideas on topics of interest for future classes.
My goal is for every child with exceptionalities to participate in the general education curriculum to the fullest extent appropriate and be educated to the best of their abilities to further develop into valued and full participating members of society through: academic excellence, relevant and authentic learning opportunities, and nurturing relationships. I again lean on the principle that parents, community, and the school district need to work together as a team.
Please feel free to contact me or any of the other professionals at the ERC with any questions you may have. I am happy to help and hear your feedback and suggestions.
I look forward to another fun and successful school year.
Kim Sanford
Special Education Director
